Hobbies

I think that everybody has some hobby. Many people has more hobbies than only one. Some people who likes the sport has some similar disciplines (two or three) as the hobby. But also the people who doesn't like motion has their own hobbies - e.g. culture, books, fishing.

I have got three main hobbies. In a past I've got a bit more. I was doing judo, but one boy knocked out my tooth and that was impulse to stop doing it. Then I was going running to enclosure Hvězda, I ran over seven kilometers in halfhour in the third class on elementary school, I thing it wasn't so bad. But then I became more lazy a stop doing sports.

Now my present hobbies. On the firts place there are computers. I have computer about five years. On the beginning I used it only for games but all games was in English so I started to learn English. While the time was passing I learned more and more about computers. The second computer I've built myself. The big break in my computer history was when I got a modem. I've discovered new world. I that time there was no internet (may be was, but not for normal people), there were 'only' BBS (Bulletin Board System). I've met (most of them only virtualy) many interesting people and I've been chating with them for very, very long time (in that time it was only two krowns for one call not limited by the time). In some magazine I have read about FidoNet, it's a network of people connected through BBSs. You can read echomails (something like newsgroup on internet) and when you become member of FidoNet you got your own address and you can also use netmail (like email). In a past there were many interesting (and now famoust) people - I can remember e.g. František Fuka (he programmed games, wrote to Cinema magazine, translated english fims, etc.) or Andrew (founder of computer games magzine called Excalibur). In first time I read only echomail through my favourite BBS. I've liked it very much so I made my own BBS and Point (when you're a point you're unofficial member of FidoNet but you have your own address). After year I have become Node of FidoNet (official member and you can host other Points). Since that time I've connected to FidoNet I've gained many knowlage. In a present FidoNet and BBSs are dead technologies and many members moved to internet but I'm still member and my BBS is still running. I've forgot, it's called Matt's Black BBS. Nowadays I use my computer for many things - beginning with writing this text, listening music, searching informations or meeting people on internet, making my internet pages. I have scanner so I can use it also as copy machine or for digitializing fotos. And old one - playing games. I also use my gained knowlage for making money - solving problems with Windows or repairing hardware.

My second hobby is music. I really like it very much. I also use computer for it. I think you have heard about MP3 format. It is some sort of sound digitializing and compressing technique, the main advantage is that music in MP3 format occupies ten times smaller place on your harddrive or CD but it is in the same quality like on audio CD. Now I have over three hundreds albums from various artists. In a past I liked punk and rock or metal music. I very liked Visací Zámek and in one year I was on every concerts they played in Prague. After that period I became listening to alternative music like Psí Vojáci or Už Jsme Doma - it's a very good music and I still like it. Now I'm listening to many kinds of music - beginning with very slow and maditative music like Dead Can Dance or Vangelis, opposite some kinds of metal like The Gathering or My Dying Bride (it's a doom metal) or Sepultura and Machine Head (it's thrash metal), through normal rock like Nirvana, Faith No More or Smashing Pumpkis. Sometimes it got mood for rap like Cypress Hill or Beastie Boys. About half year back I founded interesting in electronic music exactly jungle and drum'n'base and special kind of free tekno.

The last main hobby is reading. It is a strange that when I was small I didn't really like to read. My reading carrier has begun with magazine about computer games called Score. In the first time I've read fantasy books by J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Pratchett's Discworls serie or horrors by Clive Barker. Then my friend borrowed me book from Jack Kerouac called On the road. That book influenced me very much, I started interesting in eastern cultures, magic, spirit ways and for many european people strange things. I think that this interesting should be classified as independent hobby, but for me it is more then hobby.

And at the end something what is not really hobby - it's my pussy cat. We have her only for month but she is wonderful.
